Creating a Family Tree as a Family Project

A fun activity that you can do together as a family is a family tree project. Tracing your history ancestry is an educational experience and one that helps your kids develop a sense of roots and belonging. By visiting the past, you can prepare them for the future. While this may seem like a big challenge to tackle, it can be quite easy if you follow a few pointers.

Consider Your Kids’ Ages

First, think about how old your kids are to determine how in-depth you want to go with your research. The older your kids are, the farther back in your history you can go. For kids around preschool or early elementary age, you will want to limit the information to only the past two or three generations and keep things simple.
For example, if your child’s grandparents are living, you may want to include the names of their parents. Any farther back and your little one won’t understand the relationships.

As your kids get older, you can trace your lineage farther back. In fact, if your kids are into history, they may enjoy learning about family members who were alive during the Civil War and before. It can bring these stories to life for them.

Consider Visual Aids

While you may want to scan old newspapers and court documents to find out names and dates of your ancestors, kids often learn better with visual aids. Consider using a family tree template to record your information.

You can find a variety of styles to fit the ages of your kids and your individual needs. For example, some templates use actual trees with the branches listing family member names. Young kids will enjoy this option and help them understand the concept of “family tree.” Older kids may prefer an elegant design that can be framed when the project is complete.

These templates provide choices for how many generations you want to include. Something simple like the three-generational or four-generational family tree is ideal for the younger kids. Older kids will enjoy the ten- and twelve-generational charts if they want to find a lot of information about their history.

Begin with History

While it is common to begin with present family members and work your way back, you don’t have to follow this method. If you have a famous (or infamous) ancestor in your lineage, begin with that person. Work your way backward or forward based on how much information you can find. For kids, it can be a lot more interesting to study about people they have read about than someone obscure from history.

Don’t get stuck trying to find a person with little to no information. Kids gets bored easily, so skip over great-great-great grandfather John if you can’t find anything about him. It is okay to leave a few blanks on your family tree template. The focus should be on helping your kids learn about their past and making it fun. Tracing family history can be a wonderful learning and bonding experience for parents and their kids.

    I like what she says about the value of engaging children in creating a family tree both in terms of it helping them to develop a sense of roots and connectedness to the past and in terms of it helping them to gain an understanding of chronology and historical perspective. It could also, I think, serve to help them see that every family is a mix of both noble and ignoble qualities – a fact of life worth knowing. The tips she gives for keeping kids interested and engaged sound good. And it’s great that there are resources available for doing this activity with children.

    That’s interesting about your family tree. I’ve never gotten into genealogy, or even felt especially motivated to explore my roots – maybe because I’m afraid that for every industrious Dutchman/woman (or Brit or Scot or Welsh person or…) I’d find, there would be at least ten ne’er-do-wells of the same nationalities?? 🙂 At any rate, I can see where it would be interesting and even useful to know something about one’s ancestry, including the less savory parts of the family history, and how it could give insight into the power to genetics to influence life choices.

    • Alice Spicer November 23, 2015 at 9:56 pm

      Anne-Marie, a relative, read this blog post and sent me the Davids’ genealogy. Mom will be interested to read it and help fill in some gaps.

      • Mary Vanderplas November 24, 2015 at 5:27 am

        I’m sure she will be interested in seeing this. She’s mentioned that her brother Curtis has done some work on family history, though if I’m remembering correctly, his focus was/is on their father’s side of the family. I’m not sure whether she knows about what Anne Marie has put together.

    • Lanny A. Eichert November 25, 2015 at 12:00 am

      Mary supposes, “the power to genetics to influence life choices” as if to suggest a person is not totally responsible for his own decisions. That’s not wise, dear lady, to allow passing the blame.

      • Mary Vanderplas November 26, 2015 at 5:01 am

        I had in mind morally neutral behaviors, such as choice of vocation, not sins that “run in the family,” though I don’t rule out a genetic predisposition to certain behaviors such as addiction. Moreover, I said “influence,” not “determine.” I’m no determinist who thinks that genes cause a person’s behavior, thus absolving the person of responsibility for his/her actions.

        • Lanny A. Eichert November 26, 2015 at 12:21 pm

          Then, Mary, you agree genes do NOT cause the vile LGBTQ behaviors and they are not what they were born to be, but rather made that deliberate choice against the will of God, bringing justified condemnation upon themselves. Therefore you should be as comfortable with the cry against the LGBTQ community as a danger to society as I am. God showed His displeasure by destroying Sodom and Gomorrah and used that display in the Epistle of Jude to warn the post-Cross crowd that death still stands as the sentence against the LGBTQ community. In fact, it is God’s standard “picture” of Hell/Lake of Fire reserved for all sinners following the Final Judgment. That’s why, Mary, you need to flee your liberal apostate religion to orthodox fundamental Christianity where you can be assured your sins with their guilt be removed from you and Jesus’ righteousness be your asset from the very the moment you would believe it in this mortality here and now. Without the righteousness of Another (Jesus Christ) you have NO chance of escaping the same sort of fire that destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, only this time it will be forever. You need Jesus’ righteousness NOW before you physically die, dear Mary, as does every reader of this site, because Universal Reconciliation is a lie; and besides, to be saved now is better than the hope of remedial punishment for however long it takes in the eternal ages. Can’t you see the foolishness of that remedial nonsense? God is longsuffering NOW, not then. Then His eternal wrath will be poured out upon all His enemies. Will you continue to be His enemy even unto physical death and face fire and brimstone forever? Why? Jesus bore your sins in His own body on the Cross. Your sins were charged to Him two thousand years ago, Mary. Will you accept it now and all it means?

          • Lanny A. Eichert November 26, 2015 at 12:38 pm

            Wow, Mary, what a Thanksgiving Day it could be for you if you would today accept the once for all of time and eternity removal of all your past, present, and future sins and the immediate gift of Jesus’ righteousness to your soul. Do it today, Thanksgiving Day 2015 as the Day of Remembrance that you got saved the Biblical way, God’s way, the real way, not your way.

          • Mary Vanderplas November 27, 2015 at 3:32 am

            Whether they were born gay or became gay as a result of factors in their environment, gay persons are loved and valued by God. They may or may not act on their felt orientation, just as heterosexual persons may or may not act on their felt orientation. The choice to act or not to act is theirs to make. Gay persons choosing to act on their felt orientation in a committed same-sex relationship are as pleasing to God as are heterosexual persons choosing to act on their orientation in a committed relationship with a person of the opposite sex.

            • Lanny A. Eichert November 27, 2015 at 1:16 pm

              Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour. {Leviticus 19: 15}
              *in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.*

              If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. {Leviticus 20: 13}
              *Do you know what an abomination is, Mary?*

              I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not. {Jude 5}
              *Why did He destroy them, Mary?* Out of love?

              Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. {Jude 7}
              *Do you know what God’s vengeance is, Mary?*

              You replied, “Whether they were born gay or became gay ….” showing you don’t even believe what you formerly wrote.
              *Do you even know what you wrote?*

              You wrote your opinions without any authority other than your own thoughts. God said abomination and vengeance, Mary, and that’s not love. When will you understand that? Only when and if you get converted to believing God’s perfect literal Holy Bible. Until then you’re headed for that same destruction God poured out on Sodom and Gomorrha. It is obvious you haven’t gotten saved yesterday on Thanksgiving Day as I pleaded you to do. Please, Mary, stop delaying or you will miss the day of your salvation. Without the righteousness of Another (Jesus Christ) you have NO chance of escape. Other readers, the same applies to you.

              • Mary Vanderplas November 28, 2015 at 5:13 am

                Suggesting that sexual orientation has a genetic component isn’t a denial that human behavior is not determined by genes or that people are responsible for their actions (when it comes to living out their sexuality in a way that honors God).

                True to form, you take selected texts that have nothing to do with the matter – in this case, the permissibility of same-sex relationships – and use them to “prove” what you have decided is the will of God for his human creatures. You’re nothing if not predictable…and predictably misguided. The texts you cite can be legitimately used only to make a case against violent, exploitative sexual behavior against persons of the same sex, not to condemn loving, committed same-sex relationships. They are NOT to be taken as a blanket indictment of relationships between persons of the same sex.

                • Lanny A. Eichert November 28, 2015 at 5:28 am

                  Mary, how in the world are you terming those texts “violent, exploitative” instead of consensual?

                  • Mary Vanderplas November 29, 2015 at 5:01 am

                    People are not just bodies; they are spirits, too. It makes no sense to say that persons must do what is “natural” for their bodies while they ignore or go against what is natural for their spirits.

                    The concept of sexual orientation wasn’t a part of the consciousness of the biblical writers. To use their words referring to sexual intercourse between persons of the same sex to argue against gay marriage or gay sexual relations in a committed relationship, as though they had a modern understanding of homosexuality and were condemning it, is a violation of the biblical text. The Sodom and Gomorrah story is about attempted gang rape of foreigners, not consensual sex between partners in a loving, committed relationship. Likewise, the Leviticus text isn’t a blanket condemnation of homosexual relationships, but likely a prohibition intended to preserve the male seed or a condemnation of male temple prostitution.

                    God’s purpose for marriage and sexuality is for persons to grow in self-giving love, to grow in Christ-likeness. That this can and does happen in committed relationships between persons of the same sex as much as it can and does in committed relationships between partners of the opposite sex is hard to deny – and supports the view that genuinely loving same-sex unions are every bit as pleasing to God as genuinely loving heterosexual ones are.

                    Why am I zealous about defending gays, asks one who is totally obsessed with this subject, as is evidenced by the fact that you constantly bring it up on this website, even though the blog content has nothing to do with homosexuality. Is your obsession because you’re a homophobe whose intense fear and loathing of gays reflects his fear of and desperate efforts to suppress and deny his own secret sexual desires toward persons of the same sex? That’s what I thought.

                    • Lanny A. Eichert November 29, 2015 at 10:19 am

                      Mary, Mary, Mary, there is no new thing under the sun, said King Solomon, God’s wisest man on planet earth and you respect so-called modern thinking on homosexuality which has become a hot-button issue since gays in droves are coming out of the closet where they actual belong hidden from society. They are displaying themselves and pushing the issue which is what I’m responding to, especially YOU, poor girl. You’ve become the suspect one with your irrationale, especially your confusion of the functionality of human sexual anatomy and its effect on the psyche. Puberty tells you what to do with your body, and to violate that is NOT honoring to God’s design. God calls it abomination. Do you know what that word means? You’ll never get it right until you do.

                    • Lanny A. Eichert November 29, 2015 at 10:32 am

                      Mary, until death do you part is God’s formula for marriage and that’s NOT the experiential norm in same-sex committed relationships, so stop believing a lie. LGBTQ experience is all just perverted human lust and nothing more and that’s why God calls it abomination and so is your thinking on the subject.

                  • Mary Vanderplas November 30, 2015 at 5:02 am

                    God’s design for marriage and sexuality is nothing less than partners growing in Christ-like self-giving. Where this is absent, where partners are not learning to give themselves wholly to the other, there is no real marriage as God intends, even if the two persons stay together for life – i.e., maintain the legal bond and adhere to a legal righteousness. Maintaining a legal contract is not the same as striving to give oneself in love to the other.

                    One doesn’t have to be heterosexual in order to live out one’s sexuality in a way that pleases and honors God: growing in self-giving love in a committed relationship.

                    • Lanny A. Eichert November 30, 2015 at 5:33 am

                      Mary, I’ve asked you before, where and on what authority (???) do you get the right to write: “One doesn’t have to be heterosexual in order to live out one’s sexuality in a way that pleases and honors God: growing in self-giving love in a committed relationship.”

                      Do you deny God created you with only one gender? Do you deny God created only two genders, male and female, to solely be a complementary pair? Do you deny God called any other use an abomination? Give me the authority upon which you answer each showing the subject of that authority is the subject handled. Do you understand your claim is what pleases and honors God; and God is greater in authority than any human being? So what is your greater than every human being source of information? What is this source that tells the same thing to everybody and is readily available to everybody?

                    • Mary Vanderplas December 1, 2015 at 5:02 am

                      If God intended gays to be in the closet, then why are so many gay couples, including ones in which the partners profess Christian faith, growing and thriving in their relationship with one another and, for those who are Christian, in their relationship with God? Wouldn’t it stand to reason that, if they were violating God’s will by being together, their lives would be characterized by a failure to thrive? That they are growing in grace and love seems plainly to indicate that their lives are in line with what God wills.

                      I’ve already stated that biblical texts that are typically used to condemn gays and homosexual behavior in all of its expressions are not intended as a blanket indictment of homosexuality and gay partnerships. Indeed, the biblical authors knew nothing of what we know about sexual orientation and same-sex relationships. Using their words, which refer mainly to violent sexual behavior and other behaviors that plainly violate God’s will for the humane treatment of fellow human beings, to argue that God is anti-gay is a violation of the biblical text – and betrays any understanding of the social and cultural contexts in which the biblical authors lived and wrote.

                      That a certain behavior or lifestyle isn’t “natural” or isn’t practiced by most people doesn’t in itself mean that it’s wrong and should be outlawed. If it did, many people would be held down, prevented from living a full life, because their way of doing things in some area doesn’t conform to the majority way.

                      God’s design for sexuality and marriage is persons learning to give themselves wholly to the other, in the manner of Christ-like self-giving. That gays can do this just as well as straight people can means that they, too, can fulfill God’s purpose and thus honor God with their sexuality.

                      I’m done discussing this subject and done reading your hate-filled crap. Believe what you will about “what the Bible says.” Despite your bold claims, you are not an infallible interpreter of the written revelation of God – which must always be interpreted in the light of God’s love and grace toward all God’s human creatures.

                    • Lanny A. Eichert December 1, 2015 at 6:37 am

                      Mary haven’t you read the whole Psalm 73?
                      For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. {verse 3}
                      Don’t you know wicked people everywhere are not immediately snuffed out.
                      And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul. {Psalm 106: 15}
                      Nobody living in sin has fulfillment and contentment, but pure self-deception.
                      Romans 1: 18 – 32 declares God gave them over to reap what they sow. Vanity, emptiness.

                      You’re so foolish to discredit the ancients in their knowledge of the concept of sexual orientation just because it is not verbalized like you verbalize it. You neglect the oriental nature of Biblical language. You neglect Solomon’s vanity of vanity statements as you have Romans 1: 18 -32 and Jude 7
                      Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
                      Here their wickedness is described as “fornication, and going after strange flesh” indicative of homosexuality and beastiality. Violence is not even in the picture as the reason of their condemnation.

                      Wouldn’t it stand to reason, WOULDN’T IT STAND TO REASON. That’s Mary’s take: her own power of reason and that is all the authority she has. HUMAN REASONING. She knows more than God; she’s wiser than her Creator. I asked her if she was made only one gender and she didn’t answer. I asked her if the two genders, male and female, God created were solely to be a complementary pair and she didn’t answer. I asked her if God called any other use an abomination and she didn’t answer. I asked her to show the subject of the texts she uses was the subject of her personal meaning for the texts and she didn’t demonstrate it to be. Her contentions are totally unsupported.

                      Mary also hasn’t faced the fact that the LGBTQ community is a small minority faction, meaning they are a depressed group because they are living UNNATURAL lives. That’s why they are not a popular majority and never will be. That proves what is unnatural is sin and should be outlawed and exterminated. Therefore there is nothing wrong with bullying them out of existence or back into the closet. They have a right to commit suicide because they don’t feel accepted. I wish they’d do it all the more and they’d self-destruct completely as a group. Their mental illness, desire to die, is also proof they are abnormal and don’t have a right to live.

                      Mary, face up to your twisting of Scripture to justify your desire. Taken face-value the Holy Bible condemns same-sex relationships throughout its volume. God even demonstrated that with fire and brimstone and threatens those two elements as the final doom of the majority of the human race.

                • Lanny A. Eichert November 28, 2015 at 6:06 am

                  Mary, what do you use to determine the will of God for his human creatures? What authority outside yourself do you quote for God’s permissibility of loving committed same-sex relationships? Do you use selected texts that have nothing to do with the matter?

  • Lanny A. Eichert November 28, 2015 at 5:22 am

    Mary, how in the world are you terming those texts “violent, exploitative” instead of permissible?

    • Lanny A. Eichert November 28, 2015 at 5:52 am

      Not meaning permissible by God, but consensual by partners.

      Living out their sexuality in a way that honors God (Who created them homosexual and the right gender). How absurd to think that God would put the opposite mindset/affections from the physical bodily gender into a person. God is not inconsistent, like you. How can you possibly think *** is honoring to God? How can you possibly think a man behaving as a woman can be honoring to God? You think (Caitlyn) Bruce Jenner is honoring God for creating him a man? You think lesbian women having artificial insemination to have a family is honoring to God? How absurd can you be when the Bible tells you how it is supposed to be by God’s creative design?

      • Lanny A. Eichert November 28, 2015 at 6:19 am

        (Who created them heterosexual and the right gender) is what I meant to write. To live out your sexuality honoring to God is to behave according to your physical gender. Show me otherwise, if you can, which is impossible. Why are you so supportive of the LGBTQ community since you’re not one of them? Or does your zealous support indicate otherwise?

  • Lanny A. Eichert November 28, 2015 at 2:22 pm

    Mary, see this 28Nov2015 A.P. news article.

    MOUNT HOREB, Wis. – A southern Wisconsin school district has cancelled plans for elementary school students to read a children’s book about a transgender girl after a group threatened to sue.

    The Capital Times reports (http://bit.ly/1TadnaG ) that the Mount Horeb Area School District released a statement saying it won’t proceed with its planned reading of “I Am Jazz.”

    Parents were told last week that Mount Horeb Primary Center students would read the book because one student identifies as a girl but was born with male anatomy.

    A Florida-based group, the Liberty Counsel, threatened to sue, saying concerned parents had reached out and that reading the book would violate parental rights.

    The Southern Poverty Law Center classifies the Liberty Counsel as a hate group that advocates for “anti-LGBT discrimination, under the guise of religious liberty.”

    Mary, that’s sick in the head: one student identifies as a girl but was born with male anatomy. Since he’s got boy anatomy, he’s a boy and somebody, his parents, have toyed with his mind instead of teaching him to behave as the man-child that he is by God’s design. They are sickos and horribly confused. All three *** dangerous to society. The LGBTQ community needs to be governmentally *** and the sooner the better. They hate normality and they along with the SPLC should be the ones classified as hate groups.

    • Lanny A. Eichert November 28, 2015 at 5:02 pm

      Mary, do you honestly think when he becomes of age and *** that he’s going to still want to identify as a female ***. ***? And he doesn’t have to worry about getting pregnant, but that’s all her fault if she does. Why would he want to trade his freedom for the shame and agony of pregnancies? Look at what confusion his parents are setting upon him when he ***. You want to call that living out his sexuality (as a girl) “in a way that honors God”? How can he *** while trying to identify as a girl? That’s mental illness caused by his parents who should be ***.

      ***Lanny, for the sake of people expecting family friendly content (look at the blog title), I’m deleting most of your comment. Get ahold of yourself, man! • Lanny A. Eichert December 2, 2015 at 1:05 am

        Alice, this your site is an adult web site and Mary is dealing with decisions affected by genes in support of the LGBTQ community which you have also supported. It is right and proper to get somewhat graphic to a mature audience who thinks to support homosexuality and transgenderism. God made sexuality to glorify Him and not have its natural desires perverted. If you can’t allow natural desires and the perversion of them to be described on your site you’ve got your head stuck in the sand unwilling to face reality and unwilling to have truthful mature discussion of the facts. Family tree is about genes, dear Alice, and Mary has essentially expressed LGBTQ’s are free to live that way and can therefore honor God in their “loving committed” relationships. Sterile discussion is ineffective here. *** Common sense dictates heterosexuality is meant for reproduction (producing a family) and any deviation of sexuality is dishonoring to God’s design. That point I effectively made before you censored my comment. Family is a male father, a female mother, and children. Everything else is perversion and cannot honor God by design. God’s design is monogamy for a life time or else celibacy for a life time: a failed marriage results in celibacy for the remainder of the life. Only after a spouse dies can the surviving spouse remarry heterosexually. Everything else is perversion. Remember to even discuss the LGBTQ community is an adult discussion about perversions. It is not a third grade discussion, but it is a sixth grade and above discussion. Why? because sixth graders have already experienced physical lust. Their bodies have sexually matured and they need instruction about right and wrong. They need to know their Creator, God, has stated LGBTQ is wrong and a total perversion of what He created people to be. So, Alice, you should not be shutting down what they have recently discovered about themselves. The news article is at the elementary school level and typically no such age student has has gone through their changes to know what transgender means, but the educational system sought to prepare them for the future when it could be a problem. The parents want it left to WHEN it becomes a problem. If the parents of the supposed student would not have “made” their child such, but would have taught him to behave according to his God ordained gender, there’d be no issue here. That’s why action should be taken against both parents and the child to rid society of them. All three need re-educating or else permanent confinement, or extermination to protect society.

        Grow up, Alice; I even read on Fox News tonight that Wisconsin officials are investigating ***. There was graphic details written in that news article of bestiality. If you want to promote gay rights here you need to also discuss the unsavory details involved rather than white-washing what they are and what they do. National Fox News published details and so have I about what every teenager already knows:

        Lanny A. Eichert November 28, 2015 at 5:02 pm ***

        ***Lanny, the blog post is specifically about a family activity, and parents may view it with their children. It is not your place to interject explicit sexual details in the comment section of this blog post. Wait until I write a blog post about sex or sexuality or at the very least a blog post that doesn’t involve children. Use some common sense! NO SEXUALLY EXPLICIT OR VIOLENT LANGUAGE NOT ON THIS BLOG POST INVOLVING CHILDREN. Do you understand? If you copy and paste the same thing again, as you have done twice now, then I will have no choice but to block you from commenting altogether. Is that what you really want, anyhow, so you can go around to other websites and tell them how I censor and ban people? Oh, it is Sunday now and time to be nice to everybody and tell them to get saved or God will burn them forever. I’m serious and you know I’m not making fun, or my name isn’t Lanny. Believe or burn is Gospel truth. Sodom and Gomorrha didn’t and they’re still burning in Hell fire and brimstone right now, especially those sodomites and all those LGBTQ types. The wages of sin is death. Youall’ll burn unless you take Jesus as your righteousness. You hear me? Do it now; you may not get another opportunity (you might die in the next minute).

    Mary your first paragraph (of your 29Nov2015 at 5:01 am last response above) set up a conflict: body verse spirit. In solving the conflict, which one of the two is most easily changed? Is it easier to change the body to conform to the spirit; or is it easier to change the spirit to conform to the body? Don’t you see that the spirit can be molded to the body more readily than the the reverse? Therefore Bruce Jenner perversely chose the wrong course. He did not SUBMIT to God’s physical design for his person. Neither do you want to submit to a male deity. God our Father is the only male deity that exists and no other deity of any kind exists but Him. Both your and Jenner’s ideologies are in absolute rebellion against God. For that matter so is Alice’s and the rest of her friends’ on this site agreeing with her heresy of Universal Reconciliation and being pro-gay in their affections. Don’t all of you know that what you think is what you are, therefore since God hates what you think, He hates you as a person? That’s in line with Psalm 11: 5 & 6

    The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

    On the authority of that text I tell you that God absolutely hates your guts: your whole person, body, soul, and spirit. God hates the total you for not submitting to His righteousness. He has prepared a place for the other creatures He created who refused Him also, and that’s the devil, Satan, and his angels. That place is the Lake of Fire which He said in writing, in His perfect literal Holy Bible, He will throw you as trash as well as them. It is a place of ruin/destruction, punitive in nature, not remedial, but the expression of His eternal wrath and therefore is the eternal, forever, and unending portion of all the morally wicked creatures of His creation. It is wickedness to tamper with the physical gender God genetically created you.

    BTW Mary and Alice, in the glorified eternal state saved humanity will not have gender, so the here and now is the only place of probational submission to God that results in salvation. Therefore nobody can get saved in the after-life. Either you get saved now or after you die you’re permanently doomed. What’s it going to be for you? Your choice lasts only until you physically die. After that your fate is sealed permanent. Believe or burn; which will it be? Choose now.

    Mary (& Alice), Here’s another many and few text you would deny in Matthew 22: 14.
    For many are called, but few are chosen.
    Check the context, Mary !!! (verses 1 – 14)

    The King made a wedding dinner for His Son. Those invited would not come. The angry King invites strangers who do respond and come. One comes WITHOUT wearing a wedding garment. He gets tossed into outer darkness.

    WHY, Mary, is the garment such a big deal to the King? Don’t you see the garment is a symbol of the righteousness of Jesus Christ charged to his account? All the guests are required to have imputed righteousness in order to be accepted by the King. Don’t you see they came, good and bad, from the highways and hedges as they were and were given garments in exchange for their rags. Their rags of moral filth were removed and robes of righteousness were given them by grace alone. Here’s one, like you, who refused this special grace and came just as he was believing he will be accepted. God doesn’t accept us just as we are, dear Mary; but He takes away our rages and clothes us in His righteousness when we trust His Gospel message.

    How is it that you miss this? It is the same Gospel preached in the Garden of Eden where God took away Adam’s and Eve’s aprons of fig leaves and clothed them instead with coats of skins which He slew a lamb or goat to make. God took away their human efforts to cover their shame and guilt of their sins and covered them with the righteousness of His Son, Jesus Christ. It was all a work of God, all of grace and nothing of themselves. Their new found righteousness was the righteousness of ANOTHER, not of themselves.

    How long will you two refuse the completeness of the salvation God offers. There’s no post-mortem purging of the residual effects of our sins in the Lake of Fire. God’s believer is perfectly clean and righteous from the moment he first believes. That’s the only condition suitable to God in which He accepts anybody. You must be as good as God is to be acceptable with Him. Since you can’t possible be that, you must have the righteousness of Another. You must accept the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ in order to be saved.

    The Gospel call first went out to the Jews and when they rejected it, the Gospel call went out to all the Gentiles, some of whom received it. The rest, both Jew and Gentile were cast into outer darkness: everlasting Hell/Lake of Fire. What’s it going to be for you, dear reader, dear Mary and Alice? Will you properly accept the King’s invitation? Or still go it your way to weeping and gnashing of your teeth in darkness, outer darkness. There’s no Gospel in the darkness, which also symbolizes the static condition of no further enlightenment. Those there are stuck there. Is that what you want for yourselves? Get saved now while you have the light, because if you wait until then you will have no light whereby to get saved.
