We Feel Connected

We Feel Connected

At Tangent practice, our drummer, Mark Demaio, suggested that we take a few minutes to cast a vision for the gig the following day, and as we tossed thoughts around, he jotted a few down. My favorite is “Create a sacred space of ‘we feel connected,'” because it beautifully expresses what I had experienced a few minutes earlier, that is, what I call a “God moment,” when God just shows up unexpectedly and blesses my soul with a deep and meaningful sense of connection with Him, others, and the my immediate surroundings.  Some readers, knowing I am a follower of Christ, might assume that my “God moment” happened because Tangent is a Christian band or that we were playing a Christian song, but neither assumption would be accurate; in fact, some of our songs would have us booted out of church faster than you can say “Bullshit” (if you’re a Tangent fan, you’ll understand that reference).  Even so, I’ve been approached by people asking about the spiritual significance of certain songs, and I believe the reason this happens is that “Everything is spiritual,” and something about what we sang or played struck a primal, universal longing that says, “I’m reaching out for something greater than myself.”  God doesn’t wait for our permission to show up anywhere at any time for any reason that He pleases, and He certainly doesn’t need His activities to be officially labeled “Christian” before they serve His purposes.

“I’m reaching out for something greater than myself.”

God will only take you EMPTY, dear Alice. Read Luke 14: 26.

Nothing else has value in God’s salvation, except Jesus. Why is it you are unwilling to accept Jesus’ words in Luke 14:26?

What makes you think I don’t accept the words of Jesus?

      Hey Bro, Lanny!
We have missed you the last several weeks. Been worried about you. Praying all is well with you.

See all you folks against the organized church, that my pastor even used this media to try to find me. I took an unscheduled trip intending to be gone 6 – 8 days which turned into 18 days alarming my church. The purpose of the institution is not domination, but CARE.

I like what you say about God being universally present; and I agree that God is free to be known wherever and however he pleases, not just where he is gratefully acknowledged and depended upon and not just in expected, church-controlled or -sanctioned ways. I agree, too, that people – all of us – have deep longings, longings that drive us beyond ourselves in search of something as the meaning and fulfillment of life. And I think you’re right about these deep aspirations being expressed in a variety of ways and being expressed or touched often in songs.

It sounds like God is at work in your band in some wonderful ways. How exciting!

    I for one 🙂 …

… and I for one, here among the audience @ whatgoddoes, wish to say “Thank You for the many “God moments” created in this space / blog” , (even though… it’s not Thursday Thanks)… I can say with Mark ~ “The audience will feel that connection” … that is a truth I rejoice in.

It’s with much joy that I say ~ …”even though I’ve never met you Alice… “I know you” ~ “Yes we are connected, and ”YES everything is Spiritual”

p.s. ~ I also say as (Phil. 2:20) ~ complete my joy and be of the same mind, by having the same love, being united in spirit, and having one purpose… (σύμψυχοι sumpsuchoi) ~
    http://biblesuite.com/greek/sumpsuchoi_4861.htm
… Being of one accord ~ σύμψυχοι sumpsuchoi ~ of one soul; ~ or having your souls joined together ~ united in spirit. ~ This word here does not occur anywhere else in the New Testament. It means a union of soul; or an acting together as if but ~ “ONE SOUL ACTUATED THEM”.

p.s.s. ~ ONE SOUL ACTUATED THEM”.
    Main Entry: ~ actuate  [ak-choo-eyt]
    Part of Speech: ~ verb
Definition: ~ start a function or action, motivate
Synonyms: ~ activate, animate, arouse, cause, drive, egg on, energize, excite, fire up, impel, incite, induce, influence, inspire, instigate, key up, mobilize, motivate, move, prompt, propel, put up to, quicken, rouse, spur, stimulate, turn on, work into lather, work up
Notes: ~ when something is activated , it is made active; when something is actuated , it is moved to take action (or produce a consequence)

p.s.s.t ~ “That they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.” ~ Jesus

What makes you think I don’t accept the words of Jesus?
admin says: March 19, 2013 at 3:19 pm above.

Alice, the mere fact you didn’t reference Luke 14: 26 in your question. Then there’s the lost Judas Iscariot prophesied in Jesus’ prayer {John 17: 12}, a populated Lake of Fire at the end of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, Matthew 7: 13, 14, 21, 23; 13: 39 – 42. Also your refusal to accept all those you have loved who died without confessing Christ are right now burning in hell fire for all eternity WITHOUT REMEDY.

You will not come to Jesus totally alone IAW Luke 14: 26. You are fighting against God’s declared written perfect Holy Bible which Jesus said would be perfect for all of time.

    • admin March 22, 2013 at 4:45 pm

That does not mean I don’t accept the words of Jesus. It means I don’t accept Lanny’s interpretation of the words of Jesus.

      • Lanny A. Eichert March 22, 2013 at 6:47 pm

No, Alice, what that means is you accept YOUR interpretation. Don’t put the blame on me. You’re the one making unfounded interpretations. You’re self-deceived.

      • Lanny A. Eichert March 23, 2013 at 1:36 am

Alice, you work all kinds of excuses to INVERT Jesus’ words instead of believing them. Can’t you see that? It is your pattern throughout your site.

{Genesis 3: 1} Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said ….

        God didn’t say “Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden” but He did say “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” {Genesis 2: 16 & 17}

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: {Genesis 3: 4} and then proceeds with his false interpretation in the next verse resulting in Eve’s own emotional re-evaluation of God’s prohibition, resulting in error.

So YOU question that God didn’t mean His words at face value as given, re-evaluate them, and determine your own interpretation. You’ve been fooled, just like Eve, and worst yet, you believe yourself. Eve faced reality when the two were cursed, but because you don’t seem to see the consequence, you are SET in your error.
